[edit] Storyline

With more than two hundred episodes worth of content, Stargate Worlds has an enormous amount to draw on. With writers hired to specifically advance existing storylines and develop new ones, this game is going to have an incredibly interesting and robust story. [1] And to give the game the same feel as the show many of the same story elements, such as the character driven stories, the journey of discovery and in particular the humor will feature in the games storyline.[2]

The developers have been encouraged to take the Stargate storyline into places that for whatever reason could not be included in the series.[3] We will see many new races, and even the furlings play some (yet to be determined) part in the main storyline.[4]

Stargate Worlds will initially be set in the gap between season 8 and season 9. This is after the destruction of the Replicators, the death of Anubis, the success of the Jaffa rebellion, and the temporary disbanding of SG-1. This time period is also before SG-1 make contact with the Ori.

However players will still be able experience key moments in the history of the universe, though how this will be accomplished is yet to be revealed. [5]

[edit] Storylines to Experience

There will be a plethora of storylines for players to follow. Each faction will have an A storyline and B storyline, each race will have a storyline as will each world. There will be technology storylines as well focusing on Tau'ri, Asgard and Goa'uld technology.

Each archetype will have a chain of missions that are related to the main story arcs that they will follow through to the end of the game. In addition there will be plenty of side quests available on the many worlds that players will visit.[6]

[edit] Canon

One issue that is important for many die-hard Stargate fans is canon, and given that many of the CME staff are fans, it's an important issue for them too. Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment has been working closely with the show's producers and writers, and the most important thing for them is that the game captures the "tone and spirit of the show".[7][8]

CME has been encouraged to take the game in new and exciting directions that, for whatever reason, the show simply couldn't do.[9] But many familiar locations will be present and they will look, like they look in the show.[10] The reverse will happen too, in that locations and storylines created for the game will be treated as canon for the television series and DVD movies. [11]

The game will be adhering as much as possible to the canon from the original series but may make some small modifications to make the gameplay fun. "Does that mean that we willy-nilly change things? Of course that's not true."[12] And with the quality of the writers that have been hired we can be assured the story arcs required to bridge this gap will fit comfortably into the storyline of the show and the game.

Stargate Infinity, a cartoon series that was set in the future of the Stargate program will not be considered canon in Stargate Worlds.

[edit] Synchronicity

One of the early selling points of Stargate Worlds was that it was going to tie in with the televisions series. And not only would events in the show affect the game, but the possibility of events in the game affecting the show was also discussed. This would have made Stargate Worlds truly unique in the MMO space.[13][14][15][16] With the choice of setting being the gap between season 8 and 9, and developer quotes indicating that the story will stay in that window (at least within the Milky Way) the possibility of full synchronicity is unlikely.

However the possibility of in-game events and storylines being incorporated into either Atlantis, the third series or some other vehicle is something that the developers and the producers of the television franchise aim to do.[17]
