Stargate Worlds Wiki Exclusive Q&A
Stargate Worlds Wiki: What kind of management systems are planned for Commands?
Jim Poole: The management system for Commands will work like the standard that is currently out there. Invite, kick, promote and options for specific ranks. We will also be adding a guild calendar for the command leader and officers to edit.
Stargate Worlds Wiki: Have you decided, or come up with a slight idea of how the guild structure will work (e.g. Members, Leaders, Teams, etc.)?
Jim Poole: We have a good grasp on how the guild structure will be working. You will have the standard members, officers and the leader of the command. We do have something we are working on for additional classification within the command, but I can’t quite divulge that information yet.
Stargate Worlds Wiki: In a previous interview it was stated that you would like Guild/Command bases to evolve and grow as the guild inside them grown and gets stronger level wise, could you provide a little more info on this?
Jay Ambrosini: We are still defining our Teams and Commands structure so this information will have to wait a little while longer. We do plan though to give Teams and Commands some cool perks based upon their accomplishments though.
Stargate Worlds Wiki: In a previous interview there was a mention of plans for Command vs Command wars happening across SGW. Can you elaborate more on this? Such as if it will be a server type, flagable or just for PvP servers?
Chris Bernert: I think this is alluding to our PvP system which we are not at this time ready to divulge other than to say we are excited about it.
Stargate Worlds Wiki: Will there be any in-game feature for alliances?
Jim Poole: We do have plans to have an alliance feature for commands in Stargate Worlds. It will allow multiple commands to create an alliance which grants access to a communal chat channel accessible only to members of the alliance.
Stargate Worlds Wiki: Can you elaborate on the buildings that will be in the game? Will there be any player-created buildings such as homes or guild halls?
Chris Bernert: For launch we won’t be including any player owned or created buildings. This goes for guild houses too. We are looking into player and guild owned vaults with some cool new features. More on those features when we get to them later in production.
Stargate Worlds Wiki: Will players be able to change their class at some point in the game?
Chris Bernert: Players will not be able to change their class at any point in the game. Players can respecialize their training choices though.
Stargate Worlds Wiki: Will there by a maximum group size?
Jay Ambrosini: Currently there are two types of small “groups” in SGW (Squads and Teams), in addition to two larger “groups” (Platoons and Commands).
- Squads are the one which most players will be familiar with at the start. Squads can be composed of up to 6 players, and will typically be used for a single play session. These are basically what you see as a “group” in WoW, EQ, etc
- We also have a more “permanent” small group, called a Team, which has a maximum size of 6 players. Teams are essentially a mini-guild, and we are looking at giving them a couple unique bells and whistles… but we really can’t release much information on that right now.
- A Platoon is the typical “raid” in other MMO’s. A Platoon in SGW is restricted to 4 Squads (i.e. 24 players maximum).
- Commands are the guilds of SGW. For all intents and purposes, Commands can be as big as you need them to be.
Stargate Worlds Wiki: Will the two sides, Good and Evil, ever be able to meet up and chat or group in the game?
Chris Bernert: The two sides can chat to each other. After all, they all speak the same language. As for grouping our rule is that the sides cannot group together but we are looking into ways to bend that rule at certain points within the main story.
Stargate Worlds Wiki: Have you decided on how deep you are going to go into character creation, such as almost everything customizable right down to the eyes and character background, or if you are just going to have simple character creation as most other MMOs do.
Chris Bernert: Character creation is still being worked on but our approach is modular based where the player chooses preset choices such as skin tone, face, hair and the like. Character backgrounds are left to the player to create but we will offer the option to choose your nationality which provides a unique customization perk.
Stargate Worlds Wiki: Have any plans been made as to whether or not players can have multiple characters on the same server?
Jay Ambrosini: Players will be able to have multiple characters on the same server. At this point, we haven’t decided the maximum number of characters per server, but our goal is to allow players to experience all of the different archetypes if they choose to do so.
Stargate Worlds Wiki: Will the story line in the game progress as characters make there way through it or will the game receive updates every once in a while that move an overall storyline forward or some other way?
Chris Bernert: We are looking into several ways in which the overall story will progress. This includes updates, major patches and other means of new content delivery.
Stargate Worlds Wiki: How will players gather the materials for the crafting system, will you go out and find them or will they all be traded?
Steve Williams: In the first iteration of crafting in Stargate Worlds, your “resources” will be the items and gear you loot from fallen enemies. Each item can be taken apart through a simple process called “reverse engineering.” When you RE an item, a loot table is consulted based on a number of factors and spits out a variety of resources. It is intended that players will be able to trade most, if not all, of these resources, but we do not have any plans in the initial crafting push to have you acquire resources from NPC vendors.
Stargate Worlds Wiki: Do you have any idea what different archetypes will be able to craft?
Steve Williams: At this time we aren’t talking about how archetypes are going to interact with crafting, but all crafting disciplines are available to all players in the initial push – you are limited only in which disciplines you are trained in at any one time. – and yes, you can re-specialize in a different crafting discipline if you so desire. This said, Asgard are able to make Asgard crafted items sooner than other archetypes in their character progression, Goa’uld can make Goa’uld items sooner, etc.
