Non-Combat Content

Stargate Worlds is in the Production Phase. Therefore, any information on this wiki (including the

information in the developer quotes) cannot be taken as concrete facts, and may still change.

Stargate isn't just about the combat. Indeed a significant number of episodes feature no fighting whatsoever. SG1 has had to decode ancient devices, conduct diplomacy with alien races and battle alien diseases. SGW will have plenty of non-combat content, and this is a particular focus of the developers. It will actually be possible in Stargate Worlds to reach the level cap without engaging in any sort of combat whatsoever, but it will not be the fastest way to do so.[1]

Problem solving activities will be a particular focus of the Scientist and Archaeologist archetypes and these will be a viable way to level up, something not done well in other MMOs.[2] These activities will most likely be emulated in the form of minigames, which are currently under development. For example an ancient device may need to be decoded or the ship's power array may need to be repaired.[3] In a recent interview Chris Klug, Creative Director, said that the games being developed are "brilliant" and could be easily played as stand alone games that might be downloaded off the internet.[4]
Of course the puzzle solving activities will not likely be limited to the two classes mentioned above. They will also be of interest to science specializing Asgard and likely accessible to all the other players too.
Players may also be able to engage in diplomacy with potential foes and defeat them without drawing a weapon.[5]
Other major non-combat actives will include crafting and construction, exploration and scientific research.[6] Whether these will be implemented as class specific skills, or additional World of Warcraft style professions or a combination is unknown.
