Minigames

Stargate Worlds is in the Production Phase. Therefore, any information on this wiki (including the

information in the developer quotes) cannot be taken as concrete facts, and may still change.

One of the features of Stargate Worlds will be it's non-combat content. This will accurately reflect the show's focus on discovering new technology, analyzing alien artifacts and learning new gate addresses. These skills will be represented in the form of minigames for the player to solve. These minigames will be both complex, enjoyable and actually grant the player XP. In a recent interview Chris Klug, Creative Director, said that the games being developed are "brilliant" and could be easily played as stand alone games that might be downloaded off the internet.[1] Minigames will both advance the storyline and be used for more simple things such as unlocking doors.[2]

Currently there are seven types of minigames that the player will encounter in Stargate Worlds. These will represent different situations that they may find themselves in.[3]

All characters will be able to play the minigames but the scientist and archeologist will specialise in puzzle solving. The games will become more complex as the player advances.[4] Things like skills, abilities and materials can all factor into the success of the player in minigames.[5] While some may think that these minigames represent a purely solo activity some puzzles will be sharable with other members of the group. In addition to the sharable minigames, all minigames will provide an XP bonus to other members of the group, in addition to the one playing the minigame.[6] At other times combat oriented players may need to hold the enemy at bay while the team's designated puzzle solver plays a minigame vital to the completion of a quest, or the team's escape.

Players will also be able to purchase or craft items that will increase their ability to perform at certain minigames.[7][8]

The minigames will have a timed element to them, as they will be performed in real time. The countdown timer will however relate to the urgency of the situation.[9]

[edit] The Minigame Call-In System

Players will have a number of options to complete minigames. They can complete the minigame by themselves, if they are able and willing or have another member of their group complete the minigame. Otherwise they can use the "Call-In" system. This allows minigames to be completed remotely by another player.

Players can register for the mini-game call-in system and receive calls from other players (and NPCs) to help them complete minigames. Likewise a player who needs a minigame completed can call in another player, or NPC, to do the game for them.

Use of the call-in system does come at a cost however. Players who complete the minigames themselves will receieve all the rewards for doing the minigame, including loot, XP, and quest completion flags. Only the player who plays the minigame will get XP (experience points) from completing the minigame, so if you call in another player to complete the minigame you don't get the XP, though you do get the other rewards. Some players may also charge a fee for use of their services.

If there are no players on the call-in register a player can use the services of an NPC, who they have earned as a result of a quest completion. These NPCs have a certain percentage failure rate and charge a fee which can stack up if your NPC contacts are poor minigame players. [10]

[edit] Zen Games

As well as minigames associated with quests, crafting and so on, there will also be 'dead space' or 'Zen gaming' for when the player is not otherwise occupied. This will be in a similar vein to fishing in World of Warcraft.[11] While the developers have not released any information on these games there is speculation amoung the community that these games may reflect the more comedic elements of Stargate. Fishing in Jack's pond, trying to date Samantha Carter, and Gate Golf have both been touted as potential Zen games.
