Howard began his career in fine arts studying illustration at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah and working closely with artists such as Don Seegmiller, James Christensen and Greg Olsen. While in Provo he began working at the Saffire Corporation developing art for a variety of video games.

After more than three years at Saffire he moved to Mesa, Ariz., to be art director at Cinematix Studios. There he worked as both lead artist and art director on Revenant, a hit fantasy role-playing game published by Eidos Interactive that was recognized critically for its art.

After three years there he moved to Professor Fog’s Workshop as owner and art director working with a core group of very talented artists and programmers. While at Professor Fog’s, he directed six successful projects for Atari/Infogrames. After Fog’s Workshop he joined Realm Interactive developing a next generation online role playing game for NCSoft as lead artist.

When Realm moved to Texas in 2004, Howard remained in Arizona to pursue freelance work. Since then he has worked as contractor for NCSoft and UbiSoft, as well as a freelance illustrator on projects like Magic: The Gathering, Dungeons & Dragons and the World of Warcraft collectable card game. His work for NCSoft has involved both production art for Tabula Rasa and external art direction and production art for Auto Assault. Howard has more than 12 years of professional experience as an art director and illustrator; he is equally able to lead and direct teams as well as contribute to the daily production of high end artwork.

Howard’s work has been selected for several Spectrum annuals as well as Expose annuals and he recently served on the jury for the Painter book, published by Ballistic Publishing. His work was chosen for the book, d’artiste, also published by Ballistic. He has won several CGTalk Awards on the CGSociety.org site, where his work has been featured in the CG Choice Gallery as well as in tutorials.
