Factions

From Stargate Worlds Wiki (SGW)

Jump to: navigation, search

Stargate Worlds is in the Production Phase. Therefore, any information on this wiki (including the

information in the developer quotes) cannot be taken as concrete facts, and may still change.

Stargate Worlds will contain two principal player factions: the Light side and the Praxis. Other factions represented in the television series will certainly be in the game, represented by NPCs. It is unknown at this time whether or not player characters will be able to gain loyalty with them.

Both factions will have faction specific storylines. Players will also be able to communicate with players of other races on both of the sides, unlike Dark Age of Camelot and Lord of the Rings Online. There might also be missions, where the two factions can co-operate.[1]

Contents

[edit] The Light Side (may be known as the "Alliance", "Union" or "Stargate Union")

The focus of the show was on the light side, the alliance of the SGC, Asgard and Free Jaffa. Experiences in other MMOs and polls on the SGW forums [2] would indicate that this will be the most popular faction, particularly for first characters.

[edit] Stargate Union

Stargate Union or SGU are the "light side" humans. Whether SGU refers to an organization that is part of Stargate Command, a separate arm of the US military, or some sort of splinter group is unknown. The starting location for SGU will not be the SGC but will likely be the "Alpha Site"

[edit] Free Jaffa

Again, little is known about how the Free Jaffa will be represented in the game.

[edit] Asgard

It is unknown whether the Asgard in the game will be the same Asgard seen in the series, or some sort of splinter group. There is only one archetype available to members of this race, it is also called the Asgard. Choosing Asgard as your character chooses all three of these at once. For more information see the Classes and Races pages.

[edit] Praxis

While there is much established canon for the forces on the good side to be working together, the dark side forces are not traditionally friendly in Stargate. However given that at least two of the dark side sub-groups are entirely new to the story, this opens up the opportunity for much closer relations. How this alliance came to be will be part of the storyline in Stargate Worlds.[3]

[edit] OP-CORE

It was recently revealed that the human dark side will be known as the OP-CORE (Operation Covert Extraction and Reconnaissance). While somewhat like the Stargate Command, the OP-CORE has no moral fiber, and believes the classic villainous idiom of "the ends justify the means". How the OP-CORE fits into existing Stargate lore is unknown, but the developers have said that they are something that hasn't been seen in the series before.[4] They are led by Colonel Carelton Marsh and are made up of rogue military and "Other Governmental Agency" operatives (OGAs), including at least one NID agent.[5] Whether they have any connection at all to the Trust is unknown.

The starting location will be known as The Castle.[6] This SGC-run prison will likely see some sort of escape or uprising which establishes the OP-CORE faction when players start their character.

[edit] Fundamentalist Jaffa

We know as little about the Loyal Jaffa as we do about the Free Jaffa, at least in terms of game respresentation. One of their central tenets will be that their symbiotes are what make them Jaffa, and they thus reject the use of tretonin.

[edit] New Mind

The New Mind[7] are the Goa'uld in Stargate Worlds. The Goa'uld is the only archetype available for the New Mind.

The New Mind has never been seen before in the show. Indeed their ethos is one that did not become apparent in the show until season 9. The playable Goa'uld of Stargate Worlds are no longer trying to pretend to be gods. Rather than having armies of followers tend their needs, these Goa'uld are much more likely to "go out and do the dirty work themselves". Goa'uld behaving in this manner are those that begin the first main story arc of Stargate Worlds. These will be entirely separate Goa'uld, with their own homeworld and queen. Still, these Goa'uld will be just as egomaniacal as those depicted in the television show, and will wear some very extravagant clothing.[8] While some players are disappointed at not being able to play gods (although roleplay opportunities and limited quests may still allow this), others are excited at this new development and how it solves several issues with the show's storyline and opens whole new realms of content and storylines.

[edit] NPC Factions

Based on the information released so far, the only confirmed NPC races are the Tollan, the races of the planet Hebridan and the Lucian Alliance. See planets for more information.

Faction reputation is more based around your relationship with particular NPCs and not how much "reputation" you can grind. Your "faction" with these NPCs will open access to new quests, gear, and other treats.[9]
